April 9, 2018

Dear Heketi Families,

Welcome back! The Spring Break -- although not very spring-like -- was a good time to rest and enjoy some time away from the school building. I hope that you and your family engaged in relaxing and fun activities. As we start our 29th week of the school year, we are ready for the work ahead of us.

This week marks the start of New York State exams. On April 11 and 12, 2018, our children in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take the English Language Arts (ELA) test. The exam takes 2 days to complete and includes several reading passages, multiple-choice questions, and written responses. The test has no time limit so your child can take as much time as s/he needs to complete it. If you have any questions about the NYS ELA exam, please call me at 718-260-6002 ext 127 or send me an email at drosas@heketi.org.

Please be sure that your child reads at home every day!

In education,

David R. Rosas

The school year will end on June 22, 2018. Before you know it, the summer vacation will begin! Now is the time to plan for the summer and explore summer programs for your child.

The New York City Department of Education has a Summer in the City program, Summer Academy. This program offers free, full-day summer care with: hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math activities; enriching reading and math curriculum; and, visits to museums, parks, and other cultural sites. Students participating in Summer in the City programs also receive free, healthy breakfasts and lunches. If you would like to register your child, please contact Summer in the City through one of the following ways:

There are more options! Ms. Lewis, our Family and Community Relations Advocate, is working on a list of summer programs in our area of the Bronx. She will send it out once it is completed this week; we will also post it here on our website for you to access easily.
