Our students and their families are truly the most important people in our school’s ecosystem. Heketi families contribute to our vibrant community by attending and/or participating in one of our trademark engagement opportunities:
- Weekly Community Meeting each Friday morning
- Family Engagement Council (FEC) Meetings every First Friday
- First Friday Celebration
- The Celebration of Learning days
- Back-to-School BBQ at the end of August each year
- Thanksgiving Feast each November
Heketi is a community-grown independent charter school and we highly value community partnerships. Below we list the various ways that our community organizations may partner with us:
School trips/Field Work
Our students participate in numerous school trips throughout the school year. If you’d like to invite our students to your facility for a learning opportunity, please email us here.
Community Meeting Presentations
We welcome community organizations to visit our school and present their relevant product or service to our student and parent community.
Annual Immersive Career Day
Each Spring, Heketi partners with for-profit and not-for-profit entities, to facilitate an Immersive Career Day experience for students in our upper grades. Our students select an organization or company in advance based on their individual interests, and later visit that organization, interview its staff members, and work on a self-revelatory activity. Previous partners include:
- Salsa Caterers & Special Events
- National Urban League
- Kaufman Studios
- Lee & Low Books, Inc.
- New York City Department of Education, Office of School Design and Charter Partnerships
